Extremely rare specimen featuring
iridecent Covellite crystals with Anglesite from Tsumeb!
I can count the number of Tsumeb Covellite specimens I've seen on one hand and
this is one
of the most impressive. The crystals are small which is normal for Tsumeb but
they are very
iridescent as displayed in the close up photo above. Scattered about the matrix
with the fine
Covellites are Anglesite crystals, glassy and mostly transparent. I don't know
when I'll come
across another Covellite for this famous locality so this represents a rare

Large cabinet plate of
super sharp and lustrous Blackjack Sphalerite crystals on Dolomite covered Chert
matrix!
This centerpiece plate is loaded from one end to the other with Sphalerite
crystals and
is as impressive as it is large!
The crystals are sharp with a satiny luster
and
cover the entire Chert matrix from one side to the other. Dolomite crystals
peak out from
beneath
the smaller Sphalerites. The variation in crystal size gives the specimen a really nice
appearance
and allows for the large Sphalerites to look more isolated even though the
crystal coverage and spacing is very tight.

Exceptional
large cabinet plate of Amethyst crystals on a unique looking brown matrix!
Believe it or not, it was the matrix that first attracted my attention when I came across
this very
impressive large plate at the show. It looked like the cracked clay bed of a dry river
bottom and it
was covered with a sparkling druse. I've not another another matrix like it from Piedra
Parada and
the large Amethyst crystals that sit atop are absolutely perfect and pristine. They are
fully terminated
with gemmy interiors and a glowing purple coloration. The largest crystal is doubly
terminated and lays
horizontally to the matrix. It measures 5.5 cm in length. The other Amethyst crystals vary
in size and rise
vertically atop the dazzling surface. This is one of my favorites from the show. It's a
superb display piece.

LARGE CABINET specimen of Native
Silver in metallic matrix with Safflorrite!
This specimen is very heavy and incredibly
rich. It could have easily been part of the famous "Silver Sidewalk" considering
the size of the Silver seam but fortunately it was preserved for posterity as a specimen.
A large seam of gleaming Native
Silver can be seen extending down the top half of the matrix and popping out of the narrow
openings along the bottom half.
A sparkling coating of Safflorite is visible atop the bottom portion, forming roundish
clusters alongside the Silver. The
matrix is a grey metallic mass that appears to be Arsenopyrite with possibly some Galena
and Nickeline in the mix.
This is a classic specimen of Silver from a classic mining locality that dates back to the
early 1900's. It's also one of the
most impressive Cobalt specimens I've seen to date and definately the heaviest. It could
be trimmed but I like it as is.

Great looking specimen of Spangolite with
Azurite balls on layered Limonite matrix!
This is a fine specimen with coverage atop the entire matrix. The greenish-blue Spangolite
lays flat
atop the brown matrix while the blue balls of Azurite rise upwards as much as 1 cm, adding
relief to the surface.
The back side of the specimen is full of micro-crystals of Spangolite. They cover the
Limonite coated Azurite with
an intense sparkle. Interesting fact about Spangolite - it was named after a mineral
collector from Tombstone,
Arizona. Norman Spang had several specimens of the mineral in his collection which became
the type material.
He apparently had found them somewhere in the area near Tombstone but the exact source was
never located.

Brilliant specimen of
crystalline Native Gold perched high atop stark white Quartz matrix!
I love the presentation of this specimen. To me it resembles a golden cloud,
hovering atop a snowy
mountain peak. I don't often find Italian Golds that spark my interest but this
specimen caught my
eye at the show and I acquired it for the website. The Gold is brilliant with an
intense luster and the
cluster sits slightly elevated atop the matrix, giving the golden "cloud" the
appearance of floating
above the white Quartz surfaces. In excellent condition, this specimen is an eye
catcher in any cabinet.

Super
Sharp
crystals of brilliant green Pyromorphite in cluster!
This lovely plate of lustrous green Pyromorphite crystals is an exceptional
miniature and is about
as pristine as you can get. I've examined the specimen under 16x magnification
and saw dozens and
dozens of glassy, terminated crystals. One thing I didn't see however was broken
points and damage.
If there are any, they are very small and unnoticeable. The green is apple green
with a touch of olive.

Rare specimen of gemmy natural Quartz var. Citrine crystals!
I say natural because so much of what is called Citrine in the marketplace
today is actually
heated or irradiated Amethyst. True Citrines are rarely bright orange and
are usually a bit
more on the yellowish-orange side. These five Citrine crystals are all fully
terminated with
a gorgeous internal glow which is very noticeable through glassy reflective
faces. Very nice!

Aesthetic specimen featuring several Marcasite
crystal "flowers" or clusters on Dolomite!
I can honestly say I haven't seen another of these unusual specimens from
the Tri-State Mining District
in years and I think this would be the better example of those that I have
seen. The clusters are in excellent
shape with textbook Marcasite cockscomb crystal habits. The flowers measure
3 cm to 3.5 cm in size and are
brassy and lustrous. Fine, robust examples of this classic like this one,
are hard to come by today, and many
have decayed from being stored inproperly. That's why I consider this plate
a unique opportunity for collectors.

Classic specimen of Acanthite
crystals with Pyrargyrite on Calcitic matrix!
This is amazing rich specimen which is literally covered from top to bottom with
Silver minerals and
well defined Acanthite crystals (see close up) which are highly lustrous and
surrounded by light brown
Calcite matrix. They measures to .5 cm in size and form a very dense seam of
crystals atop the back
side of the specimen. For this reason, this is a specimen that could be
displayed from either side.

Exceptional specimen of brown
Pyromorphite crystals atop Quartz matrix!
This is one of the finest of these specimens I've ever offered and most
definately the heaviest
in terms of crystal coverage. Dozens of terminated and doubly terminated
crystals cover the white
Quartz from top to bottom and there's barely a contact anywhere. The hexagonal
crystals are glassy
lustrous and flashy and the entire specimen has a wonderful presentation. In
excellent condition.

Superb specimen featuring
amber-colored Calcite crystals on matrix!
This is easily the finest Calcite specimen I've seen from this locality and it's
certainly better than
the few examples listed on mindat.org. The Calcites are a glowing translucent
deep golden color or
almost amber-like. They exhibit satiny surfaces with complete faces and form.
